Walking around the city & film woes

adventures

It had been awhile since i’ve used film, so I brought one of my toy cameras along to a sunny day in the city. What I didn’t know, was that I would have a really hard time getting the film developed. All of the local drugstores removed their machines and some provided a service to send it out for developing, for a lot of $$ and a week turnaround! After finding out that a Costco nearby still had a machine, the lovely boyfriend did me a solid and dropped the film off. It was a great price, BUT I can’t go back there because we don’t have a Costco membership and we got away with it this one time. I know film has been dying out, but I feel like a fool for not realizing it was this bad & that one hour photo processing is no more! Very sad.

Anyway, I really love the vibrant colors produced by the film I used. Although some good shots came out blurry i’m happy with the results. Next time i’ll slow down more :) Here’s this past Saturday on film:

Drove to Queens to check out a bud’s new apartment then took the train into Manhattan.

Stopped by the Etsy x Dossier pop up shop / a pretty park

Brian took us out of the way to look at a beautifully designed menu, it was worth it / did a lot of shopping (more like looking!)

Succulents galore.

Little Italy festival around where we got falafel.

All taken with a Diana Mini & 35mm Lomography film (that I got on clearance whoop whoop!)

P.S– If anyone happens to know of a photo lab in the Long Island area that still develops 35mm film, send them my way.

Share the love!

I think it is sad that film has practically become obsolete. There is something about it that I appreciate more than I do digital. The photo quality of digital is much better than film, of course. I suppose I am just nostalgic for it as I am about records and albums that were replaced by cd’s. Good luck on finding a photo lab in your area that develops film. I enjoyed this post. Have a great weekend.

I have the same feelings about records — I love that they’re more tangible, the whole experience of taking the record out, the album liner/art, etc is just so wonderful. I was born in the wrong decade!

      Thanks for stopping by, Sharon!
